Health & Healing: Are You Suffering? is part of WURD Speaks – a new interactive event series that engages local thought leaders, nationally renowned speakers and the community-at-large on a range of topics that directly impact the African American community.
The African-American community is in the midst of a health crisis. Whether it’s diabetes, hypertension or heart disease, we are disproportionately affected and more likely to die as a consequence. That’s the bad news. The good news is that there is a lot that we can do every day to change our future health outcomes. The Health and Healing Roundtable is designed to offer you information that will help you live a longer, stronger, healthier life.
We’ll explore topics like:
- The connection between racism, stress and chronic disease
- What you can do to reduce stress
- How to prevent or manage the big 3 – diabetes, hypertension and heart disease
- How to lose weight and keep it off
- The vaccine controversy — What you should know about H1N1, Gardisil (for HPV) and the Seasonal Flu
- Cancer screening questions – Should you get your yearly mammogram or not?
- The latest on the Health Reform Debate
- How to break free from the pain of your past
- Understanding alternative medicine and treatment
