Getting Ready…
1. Allow time to complete your Retreat questionnaire. This questionnaire helps you get clear about your rage and it helps me customize the retreat and serve you better. This completed questionnaire is required with your retreat deposit and Liability Statement.
2. Know that the retreat begins with your commitment to attend. It’s as if your rage child knows she is coming to a party and she is both excited and scared. Pay attention to how you may vacillate between wanting to come and not wanting to come. This is normal, so come any way!
3. Read Frequently Asked Questions, What to expect, and Testimonies. These pages provide an overview of what to expect and what others have said about the retreat.
4. Read: Healing Rage–Women Making Inner Peace Possible, by Ruth King. This popular publication provides the foundation for this important work.
5. Take the Disguises of Rage Questionnaire in the Healing Rage book. This questionnaire acquaints you with the ways you disguise rage and provides a focus for the unvailing of rage during the retreat. Ruth will also ask you about your disguises in the retreat preparation interview.
6. Plan at least one day of rest before and following the retreat. Include time to meditate, get a massage, have hot soaks, and to simply be still and be comforted by silence.
7. Your rage child will have a lot to teach you and it won’t all happen within the sacred walls of our retreat. Schedule a follow-up appointment with Ruth or with your therapists/counselor/body worker. Your reentry can be challenging without proper support.
8. Minimize or eliminate your consumption of caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, sugar or other altering substances that silence or dull your feelings of rage and other intense or lifeless emotions.
While Attending…
1. Do not wear scents to respect those who have allergies and immune challenges.
2. Wear comfortable clothing for movement and come prepared to sit on the floor.
3. Restrict distractions during retreat–telephones, family or work matters, verbal or mental worries. Leave unnerving alerts and buzzers outside of the retreat experience. (Note: most cell phones do not work at the center)
4. We all have a unique inner rage child and she is perfect! Avoid comparing yourself with other participants.
5. Don’t worry! There is no cross talking or challenging each other at this retreat by participants, and you only need to talk and share when you want to.
What to Bring…
1. Bring your favorite writing journal and pen.
2. Bring item(s) for the altar that symbolizes Rage and Healing.
3. Bring hiking boots, rain gear, sun screen, bathing suits as appropriate.
4. Based on your response to the questionnaire, you will be asked to being an altar offering. This will be discussed in your interview with Ruth.
5. Visit Hope Springs Institute website to become acquainted with what else you may want to bring to be comfortable.
